New EU Deforestation Regulation and what it means for new products on the EU market

Are Your Products Compliant?

In June 2023, the EU adopted a bold new regulation to fight global deforestation — and it could affect your business, even if you’re not in the EU.

The EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) requires companies that place certain commodities (like palm oil, cocoa, soy, timber, rubber, cattle, or coffee) — or products derived from them — on the EU market to prove their goods are deforestation-free.

If your product includes any of these raw materials or derivatives, you must now conduct due diligence to ensure the product:

  • Was not sourced from deforested land (post-2020)
  • Was produced legally in its country of origin

Failure to comply can mean market bans, fines, and seizure of goods.
